The American drama film Every Time We Say Goodbye (1986) features Tom Hanks and Cristina Marsillach. Lt. David Bradley, an American pilot, joins the Royal Air Force (RAF) during World War II before the United States enters the war. Shot down in North Africa, David sustains a leg injury and is eventually transferred to Jerusalem to recover. While staying at a boarding house until he fully heals, David meets Sarah Perrara, a calm girl of Spanish Jewish descent who is accompanying her cousin Victoria. Victoria has asked Sarah to be her alibi as she meets up with her RAF boyfriend, Peter. As Peter and Victoria reveal their upcoming wedding plans to David and Sarah, the latter tries to dissuade his friend from making such a serious commitment.

Similarly, Sarah expresses her disapproval, pointing out potential issues within the family. However, their conversation is interrupted when a drunk Australian serviceman attempts to force himself on Sarah. In a serendipitous moment, Nessim suddenly appears and defends her while David swiftly takes the man down with his cane. Fueled by anger at being watched by her cousin, Sarah storms off. In order to protect Peter and Victoria’s relationship, David pretends not to know Sarah. As a gesture of gratitude for his aid, Nessim invites David for a drink where he reveals his long-standing love for Sarah since she was young. Now that she is 18 years old though, Nessim remains hopeful about their future together.
