However, tensions in their household are high due to an upcoming IRS audit caused by Evelyn’s incorrect tax filing. On top of that, Waymond is trying to serve divorce papers to Evelyn while her father, Gong Gong (Cantonese: “grandfather”), unexpectedly arrives from China. Meanwhile, Evelyn’s daughter, Joy, struggles to get her mother to accept her girlfriend, Becky. During a visit to the IRS building, something extraordinary happens when Alpha Waymond briefly takes over Waymond’s body. Alpha Waymond reveals the existence of multiple parallel universes created by every choice made.
The inhabitants of the Alpha Universe, under the guidance of their late leader, Alpha Evelyn, developed technology known as “verse-jumping.” This allows individuals to tap into the abilities, memories, and physical form of their counterparts from parallel universes. Unfortunately, this multiverse is now in danger due to the actions of Jobu Tupaki, formerly known as Alpha Joy. After being pushed by Alpha Evelyn to extensively utilize verse-jumping, Jobu’s mind became fragmented. As a result, she can now simultaneously experience all universes and has gained the power to manipulate matter and travel between them at will. Jobu has also constructed a dangerous “everything bagel” that has the potential to destroy the entire multiverse. In light of this threat, Alpha Waymond believes that Jobu is targeting Evelyn because she is deemed the most powerful failure among all versions of herself across the multiverse. Her untapped potential may be the key to defeating Jobu and saving their reality from destruction.
