Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014)
Filmmaker Ridley Scott brought the biblical story of Exodus to life through his epic film, Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014). At this time in history, Moses, a respected member of the Egyptian royal family and a skilled general, prepares for battle with the Hittites alongside his fellow prince Ramesses. A High Priestess delivers a prophecy to Ramesses’s father Seti I using animal entrails, foretelling that one of the two princes will save the other and become a great leader. During the intense battle, Moses risks his own life to save Ramesses, leaving both men unsettled. As events unfold, Moses takes on the responsibility of visiting Pithom instead of his cousin and encounters the cruel treatment of Hebrew slaves by Viceroy Hegep. Shocked by their conditions, Moses meets with the elders among the slaves to investigate claims of planned rebellion made by Hegep.
Following the meetings, Moses receives a message from Joshua that Nun is searching for him. In the prayer house, Nun informs Moses of his true lineage: he was born to Hebrew parents and raised by Pharaoh’s daughter after being sent away during the extermination of Jewish heirs. Struck with disbelief, Moses leaves angrily and encounters two attacking guards whom he quickly defeats. Unfortunately, two Hebrews overhear Nun’s story and report it to the Viceroy. Upon returning home, Seti passes away and Ramesses II takes over as Pharaoh. Hegep reveals Moses’s heritage to Ramesses but is met with skepticism. At Queen Tuya’s urging, Ramesses interrogates Miriam who denies being Moses’s sister. When Ramesses threatens her with physical harm, Moses steps in and confirms his identity as a Hebrew. Despite Tuya’s desire for him to be killed, Ramesses chooses exile instead due to lingering doubts. Before departing Egypt, Moses meets with his adoptive mother and Miriam who call him by his birth name, Moshe.
