Created by Seth MacFarlane for the Fox Broadcasting Company, Family Guy (1999–2024) is an American animated sitcom that premiered on January 31, 1999. The first season continued two months later on April 11, 1999, following Super Bowl XXXIII. This series follows the adventures and mishaps of the Griffin family, consisting of Peter Griffin, a well-meaning but clumsy blue-collar worker; his wife Lois, a stay-at-home mom and piano teacher from the wealthy Pewterschmidt family; Meg, their frequently mistreated teenage daughter; Chris, their overweight and awkward teenage son who takes after his father; and Stewie, their cunning infant son with questionable sexual preferences who speaks like a sophisticated supervillain. Also living with the family is Brian, their witty and sarcastic anthropomorphic dog who enjoys martinis and cigarettes. Though he may seem like a member of the family in some ways, he is still considered their pet.
Recurring characters, such as sex-crazed airline pilot Glenn Quagmire and neurotic pharmacist Mort Goldman, make frequent appearances alongside the Griffin family. Other familiar faces include deli owner/mail carrier Cleveland Brown and his wife Donna, paraplegic police officer Joe Swanson and his family, and elderly child molester Herbert. The Griffin’s neighbors are often joined by TV news anchors Tom Tucker and Diane Simmons, Asian reporter Tricia Takanawa, and Blaccu-Weather meteorologist Ollie Williams. Actor James Woods has guest starred multiple times as himself, along with the late Adam West.
