Father Stu (2022), a biographical drama film, stars Mark Wahlberg as Stuart Long. Long, a former boxer-turned-Catholic priest who battles a progressive muscle disorder, is portrayed by Wahlberg in this highly-anticipated movie. Written and directed by Rosalind Ross in her directorial debut, the film was produced with a budget of $4 million. The story follows Long’s journey as he leaves his hometown of Helena, Montana for Southern California to pursue his dreams of becoming an actor. Along the way, he navigates a strained relationship with his parents who are wary of religion after the loss of their other son. Despite facing challenges, Long secures a job at a grocery store in hopes of breaking into the entertainment industry. However, things take a downward turn when he is arrested for DUI and makes a desperate attempt to steal his father’s truck for an audition.

While employed at the store, he crosses paths with a woman by the name of Carmen. Upon discovering her whereabouts, he finds Carmen to be teaching Sunday school at a local Catholic parish. Despite his attempts, Carmen rejects his advances and informs him that she will only consider dating him if he undergoes baptism. Agreeing to her terms, Stu enrolls in RCIA at the parish where he forms friendships with fellow attendees Ham and Jacob. However, Jacob looks down on Stu while both Ham and Jacob have plans to attend seminary. Once Stu completes his baptism, he and Carmen begin a romantic relationship and he also meets her parents. Despite landing an acting role in an infomercial, Stu faces disappointment and seeks solace one night at a bar. It is there that he receives guidance from a mysterious stranger who advises him not to drive home.
