Fear Itself (2008–2009) is an American horror/suspense anthology television series that premiered on NBC on June 5, 2008. Shot primarily in Edmonton, Alberta, the show also featured some scenes filmed in St. Albert and Devon. Originally airing on Thursday nights at 10/9c, it was put on hold during the 2008 Summer Olympics. Despite plans for a return after the event, no further episodes were released and there was no official comment from NBC about the show’s future. The time-slot was subsequently filled with re-runs of other NBC programs and Fear Itself was not included in the network’s Fall 2008 schedule.
The anthology takes its name from the well-known words of Franklin D. Roosevelt, ‘The only thing we have to fear is fear itself’. It was inspired by Masters of Horror and includes many similar creative elements. The series presents standalone horror and thriller tales directed by some of the most prominent names in the film industry today, both projects being helmed by Mick Garris. The show first premiered in the UK on 5* starting May 4, 2012, and later aired in Australia on the FX channel via Foxtel in August of that year.
