Float (2019), an American computer-animated short film, tells the story of a father and his son, Alex. While playing in their front yard, the dad plucks a dandelion and blows off its seeds, causing Alex to magically float in mid-air. Initially amazed by this phenomenon, the father quickly ushers Alex back inside their home as onlookers begin to notice. As time passes and Alex grows into a toddler, he continues to float around their dimly lit house. When they go for a walk outside, the father keeps a tight grip on him and adds rocks to his backpack in an effort to weigh him down.
As they come across a playground, Alex liberates himself and resumes floating. Despite the father’s attempts to pull him away, Alex throws a fit, causing the frustrated father to declare him abnormal in the only spoken line of the film. As Alex grounds himself and breaks into tears, the father realizes his mistake and embraces him, sitting on the swing set and pushing back and forth to cheer up his son. Eventually, he launches Alex into the air where he continues to float while his joyful father runs underneath.
