The Canadian drama film Teenage Dream (1986), helmed by director Paul Lynch, follows the story of Robin. She is a young high school student who works as an assistant for her school’s gymnastics team, the Buffalo Flyers. Prior to this role, Robin had been a dedicated competitor in the sport until a car accident claimed her father’s life and left her with a leg injury that ended her career. Unfortunately, Robin’s home life is no better as she faces mistreatment from her stepfather Jack, following her mother Marge’s marriage to him. However, with the support of her friends Roy (a bus driver) and Fred (a security guard), Robin continues to secretly train at an abandoned warehouse. Things take an unexpected turn when she transfers to another high school in Buffalo, New York and catches the eye of classmate Tommy.
Despite his persistent attempts to ask her out, Robin only has eyes for Mark – who happens to be dating Leah, her unpleasant teammate on the Flyers. During her time with the Flyers, Robin faces bullying from fellow gymnasts Leah and Stacy. However, she finds a new friend in Carly. After working hard to regain her fitness, Robin is chosen to be on the team. Unfortunately, Leah and Stacy play a prank on her by falsely claiming that Mark has feelings for her. Later, Robin attempts to talk to Tommy but discovers he has moved on to other girls. As an important competition in Niagara Falls approaches, Robin is selected as one of the competitors. Tragically, Marge passes away causing Robin to leave Jack’s house. At this point, Robin and Tommy finally begin dating each other.
