The days that follow are filled with threatening letters accusing Roberto of killing Carlo Marosi. Later that night, while at home, Roberto is jumped by the same masked culprit who warns him that they’re not done with him yet before rendering him unconscious. During this altercation, Amelia, the maid, witnesses everything from afar.
When Nina, Roberto’s wife returns, he confesses everything but refuses to involve the authorities due to fear of being arrested for Marosi’s death. After learning the identity of the masked figure, Amelia attempts to blackmail them. Tragically, she is later found dead in a nearby park at the hands of this person. Despite Roberto’s initial hesitation, Nina’s cousin Dalia decides to come and stay with the couple. Meanwhile, Carlo Marosi emerges alive from his supposed encounter with Roberto, revealing that it was all staged using a fake knife. Unbeknownst to Roberto, Marosi is actually working for his mysterious tormentor. Fearing for his safety after Amelia’s murder, Marosi tries to back out of their arrangement but is ultimately silenced by the figure.
