Frankenweenie (1984)
Frankenweenie (1984) is an American featurette boasting elements of science fiction, comedy, and horror. Tim Burton directs and co-writes the film with Leonard Ripps. The story follows young Victor Frankenstein, who enjoys making movies with his pet Bull Terrier Sparky. Tragically, Sparky is hit by a car and passes away. However, while learning about electrical impulses in muscles at school, Victor is inspired to use his scientific knowledge to bring his beloved pet back to life. He sets up an intricate lab in his attic and uses lightning to reanimate Sparky. Though Victor is thrilled with the results, there are some negative consequences when Sparky escapes from the house and causes a stir among the neighbors. Despite never seeing Sparky clearly, they begin to suspect that something strange is happening in the Frankenstein household.
To put an end to these rumors and ease tensions, Victor’s parents introduce the revived Sparky to their neighbors. The orchestrated meet-and-greet quickly spirals into pandemonium as the neighbors identify Sparky as the creature and panic ensues. In a frenzy, Sparky takes off with Victor hot on his trail. They eventually seek refuge in an abandoned miniature golf course, taking shelter inside its main attraction – the windmill. The raging crowd of neighbors arrives, now transformed into an angry mob, and attempts to use a lighter to peer into the windmill. In their haste, they accidentally start a fire which engulfs the windmill. As Victor is knocked unconscious in the chaos, Sparky heroically saves him from the flames only to ultimately be crushed by the burning structure.
