Franklyn (2008) is a British science fantasy film written and directed by Gerald McMorrow as his debut feature. Set in a vivid, comic book-inspired world, it tells the story of Jonathan Preest, the masked vigilante of Meanwhile City. In this city, everyone is required to adopt a religion by law. However, Preest stands out as the only atheist around. When he discovers that his archenemy, The Individual, has abducted a young girl, Preest sets out to find her. But his quest takes an unexpected turn when he is taken into custody by the local authorities. In exchange for his eventual release, they attempt to implant a tracking device on him by bringing him to an operating room. However, Preest manages to escape before they can complete the procedure. Meanwhile, in our own reality, Emilia is a troubled art student living in London.

During one of her art projects, she captures herself calling for an ambulance and taking a deadly dose of pills. Luckily, the ambulance arrives just in time to save her life and she awakens in a hospital room. Peter, a devout man, searches for his son David in the same building. Sadly, David has been struggling with mental instability since his return from war and was last seen at the hospital before escaping. Upon discovering that the Individual was responsible for the kidnapping and murder of a young girl, Preest seeks out Wormsnake, his trusted source, and takes action against him. Under the guise of wanting to discuss matters further, Preest hands Wormsnake a note containing an address and instructs him to pass it along to the Individual. Taking cover in the adjacent building referenced in the note, Preest armed with a sniper rifle awaits for the arrival of the Individual.
