Fresh (2022) is an American horror thriller film directed by Mimi Cave, in her directorial debut, from a screenplay by Lauryn Kahn. The movie follows Noa, a disillusioned woman from Portland who has had enough of the rude men she encounters through online dating. However, while at the supermarket one day, she meets Steve, who flirts with her and they exchange numbers. Their first date goes well and they end up having sex. As their relationship progresses over several dates, Steve suggests a weekend getaway for just the two of them. Despite her friend Mollie’s warnings, Noa agrees to go on the trip. She spends the evening at Steve’s lavish home and plans to leave early the next morning. But things take a horrific turn when Steve drugs her cocktail and she wakes up chained in his basement. It is then revealed that Steve is not only a sadistic cannibal but also an infamous butcher of human meat sold to wealthy clients.
His clients favor the flesh of young women, so he routinely entices and seizes them on dates. He promises to prolong Noa’s life in order to maintain the freshness of her meat, as his plan is to surgically remove various parts from her body over time. Although Steve gives Noa permission to take a shower, she attempts an escape. As punishment, Steve captures her again and harvests her buttocks. In an adjacent room, Noa speaks with a woman named Penny who is also being held captive. Penny reveals that the faint singing heard is from another victim named Melissa, who has succumbed to insanity. Meanwhile, Mollie grows worried about Noa’s sudden disappearance and launches an investigation with the help of her friend Paul – a bartender who served drinks to Noa and Steve on their initial date.
