Friday the 13th (2009) is a slasher film, helmed by director Marcus Nispel and written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. On this ominous date in June of 1980, a young Jason Voorhees witnesses his mother’s beheading at the hands of a camp counselor, who was trying to escape Mrs. Voorhees’s murderous rampage around Camp Crystal Lake. Nearly three decades later, five friends—Wade, Richie, Amanda, Mike, and Whitney—arrive for a camping trip at Crystal Lake with hopes of stumbling upon a hidden marijuana crop in the surrounding woods. That night, an adult Jason takes the lives of all but Whitney, whom he captures due to her resemblance to his mother in her youth. Six weeks later, Trent and Jenna arrive at Trent’s summer cabin on the lake shore for a getaway with their friends Chelsea, Bree, Chewie, Nolan and Lawrence. At the same time, Whitney’s brother Clay Miller makes his way to the lake in search of her despite the local sheriff’s warnings to look elsewhere.

Clay and Jenna team up to search for Whitney, while Chelsea and Nolan spend the day wakeboarding on the lake. Tragically, Jason takes Nolan’s life with a bow and arrow, and fatally wounds Chelsea with a machete. Meanwhile, at the old Crystal Lake campgrounds, Clay and Jenna witness Jason dragging a body into an abandoned camp house. They immediately rush back to the cabin to warn everyone about Jason’s presence. In the meantime, Chewie meets his demise in a tool shed nearby, as Trent and Bree are occupied in a bedroom. When Clay and Jenna return to the cabin, they waste no time in calling the police for help. But before any assistance can arrive, Jason cuts off the electricity supply to the cabin. As Lawrence goes outside to look for Chewie, he becomes another victim of Jason’s axe. Inside the cabin, Bree also falls prey to Jason’s deadly attacks.
