Friends with Benefits (2011)
Friends with Benefits (2011) is a romantic comedy flick directed by Will Gluck and starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis. Jamie Rellis, an executive headhunter in NYC, recruits Dylan Francis Harper Jr., an LA art director, for a position at GQ magazine. Despite initial doubts, he accepts the job after spending an adventurous evening in the city with her. Dylan moves to New York on a one-year contract that earns Jamie a commission, and they develop a strong platonic bond. One day, they mutually agree that sex should not come with emotional strings attached and engage in purely casual encounters. After several such rendezvous, Jamie decides to give dating another shot, and she and Dylan revert back to being just good friends.
After five dates, Jamie and Parker consummate their relationship according to her five-date rule. However, the next morning, he breaks up with her. Feeling distraught, Jamie’s plans for a Fourth of July weekend with her free-spirited mother, Lorna, fall apart. Instead, Dylan convinces her to join him on a trip to Los Angeles. During the trip, she meets his sister Annie, nephew Sammy, and father who is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease. The following day, while eavesdropping on Dylan and Annie’s conversation, Jamie hears him refer to her as ‘damaged’ in regards to their relationship. Heartbroken, she returns home and ignores all of Dylan’s attempts to reach her.
