Fury (2014), an American war film written and directed by David Ayer, follows the experiences of a seasoned staff sergeant named Don ‘Wardaddy’ Collier during the Western Allied invasion of Germany in April 1945. Wardaddy leads a crew on board an M4 Sherman tank called Fury, consisting of gunner Boyd ‘Bible” Swan, loader Grady ‘Coon-Ass’ Travis, driver Trini ‘Gordo’ Garcia, and assistant driver–bow gunner ‘Red’. The team has been together since fighting in North Africa. However, after Red is killed in a tank battle, Private First Class Norman Ellison joins as their new assistant driver. Norman’s previous role was a typist clerk for V Corps, making him inexperienced in combat and hesitant to engage in violence. As Fury pushes further into Germany, the crew grows frustrated with Norman’s lack of experience and aversion to war.

While in a convoy, he refrains from firing at a group of hidden Hitler Youth soldiers. As a result, they launch an unexpected attack on the lead tank, resulting in the death of the platoon leader and his crew. Later, he hesitates when faced with anti-tank fire. Following a battle, Don makes the decision to have Norman execute a captured German soldier. When Norman refuses, Don forces him to use his revolver and kill the soldier instead, causing lasting trauma for Norman. After securing a small town, Don enlists Norman’s help to search and clear an apartment where they come across two German women – Irma and her cousin Emma – who were in hiding. Grateful for Don’s supplies, the women prepare a hot meal and also provide him with hot water for a shave.
