Against Professor Farnsworth’s wishes, Leela takes control of the Planet Express Ship to compete in a demolition derby after being provoked by rednecks. Meanwhile, Bender comes across Cubert and Dwight playing Dungeons & Dragons, but being a robot, he lacks the ability to join in on their imaginative game. However, he manages to imagine himself as ‘Titanius Anglesmith’, a medieval knight from Cornwood, and becomes fully immersed in the fantasy world. His actions lead him to being admitted into the Hal Institute for Criminally Insane Robots. The crew discovers that Mom, owner of the only dark matter mine in the world, is intentionally limiting its supply to increase profits. It is revealed that Professor Farnsworth had discovered a way to convert dark matter into fuel while working for Mom. This resulted in two crystals being created – one kept by Mom and one hidden by Farnsworth known as the ‘anti-backwards’ crystal.
Bringing the crystals together renders dark matter useless, prompting Farnsworth, Fry, and Leela to fly to Mom’s mine with the crystal in order to neutralize it. Upon arrival, they discover that the mine is actually a farm run by Nibblonians who are harvesting their own dark matter poop. Nibbler, who had been captured as well, questions why they are not surprised by his ability to talk. They reveal that he had forgotten to erase their memories during their previous encounter. As they come face-to-face with Mom and her three sons (Walt, Larry, and Igner), Leela takes on the sons while Farnsworth attempts to unite his crystal with Mom’s. When he risks losing the anti-backwards crystal, Farnsworth makes a bold move and swallows it. The close proximity of the crystals triggers a resonance in all of the dark matter, launching our characters into Cornwood – the fantastical realm that Bender believes himself to be from.
