Game 6 (2005)

Game 6 (2005) is an American comedy drama film directed by Michael Hoffman. Successful playwright Nicky Rogan is preparing for the opening night of his latest play. Despite assurance from those around him that it will be a hit, doubts and fears creep in as he is reminded of another writer who received harsh criticism from the local newspaper’s new drama critic, Steven Schwimmer. These doubts escalate when Rogan mistakenly ends up with a handgun and considers seeking revenge against Schwimmer. Rather than attending his play’s premiere, Rogan finds himself at a bar with a lady cab driver and her grandson, who initially mistakes him for a small-time criminal. As they tune in to Game 6 of the 1986 World Series, between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Mets, it’s clear that this is a crucial match. The Sox have already won three games and could seal the title with a victory in this game.
However, Rogan, a lifelong fan of the Sox, knows all too well how easily they can let a sure win slip away. Despite their initially strong performance, he spends the evening on edge, anticipating the inevitable outcome. And when it does happen (thanks to a pair of unexpected errors in the final inning), Rogan can no longer contain his frustration and storms off to confront a newspaper critic who has been particularly critical of the team’s players. As luck would have it, he not only finds the critic but also catches him in a compromising situation with the daughter of a playwright. In a fit of rage, Rogan begins firing wildly before finally being calmed down by learning that even the critic is crushed by the Sox’s loss.
