Garfield: The Movie (2004) is a comedy film based on Jim Davis’ popular comic strip. It was directed by Peter Hewitt and written by Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow. The story follows the life of Garfield, an overweight and free-spirited orange cat, who lives with his owner Jon Arbuckle. Garfield enjoys teasing Jon and outsmarting their aggressive Dobermann neighbor, Luca. Despite their differences, Garfield also has a unique friendship with a mouse named Louis, whom he constantly spares from his mischief. He also hangs out with fellow neighborhood cats Nermal and Arlene. Jon often takes Garfield to see his crush, veterinarian Dr. Liz Wilson. However, due to a miscommunication, Jon ends up adopting a hyperactive dog named Odie instead of getting a date with Liz.
This leads to competition between Garfield and Odie for Jon’s attention as they attend a canine talent show where Liz is judging. While being pursued by other dogs, Garfield prompts Odie to head to the center of the ring. With a successful improvised dance to the Black Eyed Peas’ “Hey Mama”, Odie impresses Happy Chapman, a local television host and judge. Offering Jon a television deal for Odie, Happy is turned down by Jon. Upon Garfield’s return home, he has had enough of Odie’s presence and strikes a ball, causing chaos in the house. Despite Jon’s frustration upon discovering this, he forces Garfield to spend the night outside. As Odie tries to comfort Garfield, he gets locked out of the house. Nermal and Arlene witness this as Odie runs away and meets Mrs. Baker, who takes him in.
