Ghostbusters II (1989) is a sequel to the popular American supernatural comedy directed by Ivan Reitman and written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. In this installment, the Ghostbusters are facing legal repercussions after saving New York City from a dangerous deity known as Gozer five years ago. As a result, they are no longer allowed to investigate paranormal activity and have been forced to close their business. Each member of the team has taken on new roles: Ray Stantz now owns an occult bookstore and also works as an unpopular children’s entertainer with Winston Zeddemore. Egon Spengler spends his time conducting experiments on human emotions in a laboratory setting, while Peter Venkman is the host of a TV talk show that focuses on psychics. Meanwhile, Dana Barrett, Peter’s former girlfriend, has moved on with her life and now works at an art museum restoring artwork. She reaches out to the Ghostbusters for help when her infant son Oscar’s stroller rolls into a busy intersection seemingly on its own.
At the museum, a painting of Vigo the Carpathian, an infamous 16th-century tyrant and magician from Europe, comes to life and enslaves Dana’s boss, Janosz Poha. Vigo commands Janosz to find a child for him to possess in order to break free from his painting and conquer the world once again. Being taken with Dana, Janosz selects Oscar for this task. In the meantime, the Ghostbusters unearth a river of slime coursing through the abandoned Beach Pneumatic Transit system at the spot where Oscar’s stroller halted. Ray manages to acquire a sample of the slime but is attacked by it in the process. In his struggle, he accidentally breaks a pipe that lands on a power line and plunges the entire city into darkness. The Ghostbusters are soon arrested and brought before court not only for causing damage but also for their investigations into paranormal activity.
