Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024), a supernatural comedic flick from Gil Kenan and screenwriter Jason Reitman, follows the adventures of Callie Spengler, her boyfriend Gary Grooberson, her kids Trevor and Phoebe, and their pals Lucky Domingo and Podcast. Amidst the setting of New York City, our heroes team up with Winston Zeddemore and Ray Stantz to resurrect the Ghostbusters. Following a successful capture of a ghost in Hell’s Kitchen, located in Lower Manhattan, their old nemesis turned Mayor, Walter Peck swoops in to threaten their shutdown. To pacify Peck’s demands, Callie removes the underage Phoebe from the squad. In response to this decision, Phoebe takes refuge by playing chess in a nearby park where she meets Melody – an acquaintance that happens to be a ghost herself.

As Ray and Podcast continue their quest for cursed objects, Nadeem Razmaadi pays them a visit. He brings with him a unique brass orb featuring ritual markings in Mesopotamian Arabic passed down from his grandmother. Upon examining it, Ray determines that the orb is an apotropaic trap commonly used against supernatural entities since ancient times due to its copper alloy composition. However, when Ray checks its PKE levels, he discovers that it is emitting strong psionic energy. This energy causes a disturbance at the Ghostbusters’ headquarters, damaging their ecto-containment unit that was already full to the brim. In order to contain the orb safely, Winston takes it to Dr. Lars Pinfield’s paranormal research center which he owns privately.
