Jackson takes on five different characters throughout the film and showcases his dance skills to songs like ‘2 Bad’. The mayor of Normal Valley leads a group of angry citizens to the mansion of the Maestro, a performer who has been entertaining local children with magic and ghost stories. Despite the children’s reassurance that the Maestro has done no wrong, the mayor is determined to banish him as a ‘freak’.
In response, the Maestro proposes a ‘scaring contest’ where the loser must leave. He mesmerizes with his magic tricks and dances alongside a ghostly horde. Finally, he takes control of the mayor’s body and forces him to dance. After the performance, the Maestro agrees to leave and crumbles into dust, only to return as an enormous ghoul. This terrifies the mayor who jumps out of a nearby window in fear. However, the families all agree that they had an enjoyable time and decide to let the Maestro stay.
