Gnomeo & Juliet (2011) is an animated romantic comedy film directed by Kelly Asbury from a screenplay by Rob Sprackling and John Smith. In the English town of Stratford-upon-Avon, two feuding neighbors, Miss Montague and Mr. Capulet, reside next to each other. When they are away from their gardens, their respective lawn ornaments and gnomes come to life – the blue-hatted gnomes in Miss Montague’s garden led by Lady Blueberry, and the red-hatted gnomes in Mr. Capulet’s garden led by Lord Redbrick. One day, Gnomeo enters into a lawnmower race against his rival Tybalt, who destroys Gnomeo’s lawnmower during the race. Seeking revenge, Gnomeo and his friend Benny sneak into the Red garden disguised as intruders but end up accidentally triggering a security light while trying to vandalize Tybalt’s mower. In the midst of their escape, Gnomeo stumbles upon an abandoned garden where he meets Juliet – Lord Redbrick’s daughter – who also happens to be seeking out a rare orchid on the greenhouse roof.
The two are captivated by one another and engage in a playful competition for the flower, resulting in them tumbling into a nearby pond and revealing their true colors. Surprised, Juliet rushes home and confides in her frog-sprinkler companion Nanette about her newfound affection. Nanette views the situation as delightfully dramatic but promises to keep it confidential. Gnomeo and Juliet continue to rendezvous secretly in the neighboring garden, where they encounter Featherstone, a pink plastic flamingo who supports their relationship. Lord Redbrick arranges for Juliet to be betrothed to the domineering Red gnome Paris, but Juliet manages to divert his attention with Nanette, who quickly develops feelings for him. Lady Blueberry is devastated when the Reds infiltrate the garden and destroy Gnomeo’s late father’s cherished plant as retribution for his previous actions. The Blues urge Gnomeo to retaliate against the Reds, but just as he is about to spray their prized tulips with insecticide, Juliet catches him in the act and causes him to reconsider.
