Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024) is an American monster film directed by Adam Wingard. Produced by Legendary Pictures and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it serves as the sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) and the fifth installment in the Monsterverse franchise. Three years after triumphing over Mechagodzilla, Kong has claimed his new territory within the Hollow Earth and is searching for others of his kind. Meanwhile, on the Earth’s surface, Godzilla maintains peace between humanity and gigantic creatures, also known as ‘Titans’. Recently, he defeated Titanus Scylla in Rome before taking a rest in the Colosseum. As fate would have it, a Monarch observation outpost stationed in the Hollow Earth receives an unfamiliar signal.

This causes Jia, the last surviving member of the Iwi tribe from Skull Island, to experience hallucinations and visions that worry her adoptive mother and Kong expert, Dr. Ilene Andrews. At the same time, Godzilla senses this signal too and departs Rome to attack a nuclear plant in France for its radiation before heading towards Tiamat’s lair in the Arctic. When a sinkhole opens near his home, Kong discovers an uncharted realm where a tribe of his species has survived, including a juvenile named Suko. After a brief initial confrontation, Kong convinces Suko to lead him to the tribe’s lair, and the two slowly bond on their journey. The tribe’s tyrannical leader, Skar King, battles Kong with the aid of an ancient ice-powered Titan, Shimo, whom he controls using a crystal that can cause her pain.
