Gone Girl (2014), an American psychological thriller directed by David Fincher and written by Gillian Flynn, follows the story of Nick Dunne, a writing teacher who discovers his wife Amy is missing on their fifth wedding anniversary. Amy’s fame as the inspiration for her parents’ successful Amazing Amy children’s books leads to widespread media coverage, and Nick’s apparent lack of concern over his wife’s disappearance raises suspicion. Through flashbacks in the form of diary entries, we see a complex reality and a marriage that has deteriorated over time. The fictional character of Amazing Amy was a perfect version of the real Amy, highlighting her own insecurities and failures. Both Nick and Amy faced job losses during the recession and moved to North Carthage, Missouri to support Nick’s dying mother. As time passed, Nick grew distant from Amy and turned to having an affair with Andie, one of his students, while Amy resented him for uprooting her from New York.

Detective Rhonda Boney and the forensic team uncover evidence of a struggle and significant blood loss in the house. It is discovered that there were financial problems and marital conflicts between the couple, as well as Amy’s recent attempt to purchase a gun. Medical records reveal that Amy was pregnant, which Nick claims to have been unaware of. On their past wedding anniversaries, Amy would arrange intricate treasure hunts for Nick. However, this year’s clues are found in locations where Nick had been unfaithful with his mistress Andie. This indicates that Amy was aware of his affair. During the investigation, Nick stumbles upon expensive items purchased using his credit card hidden in his twin sister Margo’s woodshed. Following her clues, authorities come across a partially burned diary in which Amy expresses her growing fear of Nick and her belief that he may try to harm her.
