Gone in 60 Seconds (2000) is an American action heist film directed by Dominic Sena and written by Scott Rosenberg. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, it is a loose remake of the 1974 H.B. Halicki film of the same name. Car thief Kip Raines and his gang are hired by British gangster Raymond Calitri in Long Beach, California, to steal 50 high-end cars. However, their plan goes awry when Kip unknowingly leads the police to their warehouse after taking a Porsche 996 from a showroom. This forces the thieves to make a quick retreat while Detectives Castlebeck and Drycoff impound the stolen cars and launch an investigation. In order to help his brother Kip, who has been captured by Calitri, notorious but reformed car thief Randall ‘Memphis’ Raines is contacted by Calitri’s associate Atley Jackson. Memphis agrees to steal the 50 cars within 72 hours or else Kip will face certain death in a car crusher at the hands of Calitri.

Memphis pays a visit to his mentor, Otto Halliwell, and together they gather a team of former colleagues: Donny Astricky, who now teaches driving; Sphinx, a mortician with no voice; and Sara ‘Sway’ Wayland, who works as both a mechanic and bartender. Kip and his crew generously offer their assistance, and the group assigns each car on their list a unique code name. Memphis specifically requests to save the 1967 Ford Shelby GT500, known as ‘Eleanor’ from previous theft attempts, for last. While scouting the cars, Memphis and Kip narrowly escape death at the hands of a rival gang. With the intention of delivering the cars before they can be traced, the crew devises a plan to steal all of them in one night. However, Castlebeck and Drycoff discover that Kip has bribed an employee at a Mercedes dealership to obtain laser-cut transponder keys for their operation.
