Gotham (2014–2019) is an American superhero crime drama television series based on characters from the Batman comics published by DC Comics. Developed by Bruno Heller and produced by Warner Bros. Television, it originally aired on Fox from September 22, 2014 to April 25, 2019, for five seasons totaling 100 episodes. In the first season, GCPD Detective James Gordon teams up with his corrupt partner Harvey Bullock to solve various crimes in Gotham City, including the murder of Bruce Wayne’s parents. The city is also plagued by a gang war between crime families led by Carmine Falcone, Sal Maroni, and Fish Mooney; with Oswald Cobblepot caught in the middle. The second season sees new threats emerge as Theo Galavan targets Bruce Wayne for death on behalf of the Order of St.Dumas; Gordon is wrongfully accused of murder by Edward Nygma; and inmates at Arkham Asylum are subjected to unethical experiments at a facility known as Indian Hill, overseen by Professor Hugo Strange for the secretive Court of Owls.

In the third season, Gordon becomes a bounty hunter, pursuing the Indian Hill monsters. As Jervis Tetch threatens the city with a deadly virus, Cobblepot and Nygma vie for control of Gotham. Meanwhile, Bruce is instructed by the leader of the Court of Owls to seek out Ra’s al Ghul for further training. Moving into the fourth season, Bruce takes on a masked vigilante persona in preparation for Ra’s al Ghul’s return. Sofia Falcone arrives in Gotham to reclaim her family’s criminal empire from Cobblepot, who has established a new law allowing for ‘licensed crime’. At the same time, Jeremiah Valeska descends into madness and forms an alliance with Ra’s al Ghul to turn Gotham into an isolated ruin. As Bruce embraces his destiny as ‘Gotham’s Dark Knight’, tensions rise between him and Jeremiah as they become bitter enemies. In the fifth and final season, Gordon and his allies work to restore order in Gotham while facing threats from all sides. Nyssa al Ghul seeks revenge for her father’s death, Eduardo Dorrance takes over the city’s military presence, and Jeremiah plots to torment Bruce in hopes of solidifying their ‘bond’ as archen.
