Greenland (2020)

Greenland (2020), an apocalyptic thriller directed by Ric Roman Waugh and written by Chris Sparling, follows the story of John Garrity, a structural engineer residing in Atlanta, Georgia with his estranged wife Allison and diabetic son Nathan. As they gather together to witness the passing of a newly-discovered interstellar comet named ‘Clarke’, John receives an automated message from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) informing him that he and his family have been selected for emergency sheltering. With chaos erupting around them, John rushes back home just as a fragment of the comet strikes Tampa, Florida instead of its expected location near Bermuda. In the midst of this disaster, John receives another call instructing him to head to Robins Air Force Base for an evacuation flight. As it turns out, Clarke is on a direct collision course with Earth and hundreds of fragments are set to bombard the planet in the next two days. One fragment is especially dangerous as it has the potential to cause an extinction-level event.

John, Allison, and Nathan quickly flee their home, unable to bring anyone else with them due to boarding restrictions. While making their way to the base, they encounter a long line of traffic and are forced to leave their car behind. Unfortunately, Nathan’s insulin is left in the vehicle. John leaves to retrieve it but is stopped by officials who escort Allison off the base upon learning about Nathan’s medical condition. John manages to board a plane but realizes too late that Allison and Nathan were not able to join him. In a panic, he jumps off the plane and heads back to the car. To his relief, he finds a note from Allison explaining that they are on their way to her father’s house in Lexington, Kentucky. As John leaves the base, chaos erupts as a group breaks in and causes explosions which destroy multiple evacuation planes due to gunfire igniting jet fuel.
