Groundhog Day (1993), an American rom-com directed by Harold Ramis with a screenplay by him and Danny Rubin, follows television weatherman Phil Connors as he covers the Groundhog Day celebrations in Punxsutawney. Despite his negative attitude towards the assignment and the small town and its inhabitants, Phil is joined by producer Rita Hanson and cameraman Larry. The next day, February 2nd, Phil wakes up to Sonny & Cher’s ‘I Got You Babe’ on the radio at Cherry Street Inn. He gives a lackluster report on Punxsutawney Phil and the festivities before being trapped in the town due to an unexpected blizzard. Desperate to leave, Phil spends the night there. The following day, Phil wakes up at the Cherry Street Inn to the familiar tune of ‘I Got You Babe’ and the DJ’s chatter on the radio.

He recognizes that he is reliving the same events as yesterday and believes he is experiencing déjà vu. Despite his efforts to leave town, Phil finds himself unable to escape and eventually goes back to bed. When he wakes up, it is once again February 2nd. Gradually, Phil comes to terms with the fact that he is stuck in a time loop and no one else seems to be aware of it. He confides in Rita, who suggests seeking help from a neurologist, who then refers him to a psychologist. However, neither of them can provide an explanation for his predicament. Frustrated and feeling trapped, Phil decides to let loose by getting drunk with locals Gus and Ralph before leading police on a wild car chase which ultimately results in his arrest and imprisonment. The next day, Phil finds himself back at the Cherry Street Inn.
