The American slasher film, Halloween (2007), was written, directed, and produced by Rob Zombie. Serving as a remake of John Carpenter’s 1978 horror film with the same title, it takes place in Haddonfield, Illinois on Halloween night. A ten-year-old Michael Myers displays early signs of psychopathic tendencies as he brutally murders his school bully Wesley Rhoades, his sister Judith, her boyfriend Steve Haley, and his mother’s abusive partner Ronnie White out of a desire for revenge. However, he spares his infant sister Angel. Following one of the lengthiest trials in the state’s history, Michael is convicted of first-degree murder and is placed under the care of child psychologist Dr. Samuel Loomis at Smith’s Grove Sanitarium.
In the beginning, Michael cooperates with Loomis and receives regular visits from his beloved mother Deborah. But over time, he becomes distant and fixated on papier-mâché masks while disengaging from those around him – including his dear mother. After Deborah’s death, Michael remained reclusive for 15 years, continuing to make masks and refusing to interact with others. Loomis, who had been treating him all this time, decides to close Michael’s case and move on. But things take a dark turn when Michael escapes from Smith’s Grove, leaving a trail of death behind him. He steals clothes from a truck driver and heads back to Haddonfield. On Halloween night, he returns to his childhood home, retrieving the knife and mask he had hidden under the floorboards after killing his sister.
