Halloween II (1981) is an American slasher film directed by Rick Rosenthal. It marks his first time as a director and was written and produced by John Carpenter and Debra Hill. On October 31, 1978, Michael Myers is shot and falls off a balcony by his psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis. Despite his injuries, he manages to flee into the night. While wandering through alleys, he comes across an elderly couple from whom he steals a kitchen knife. He then proceeds to murder a teenage girl next door. Meanwhile, Laurie Strode, who narrowly escaped death on that fateful night, is rushed to Haddonfield Memorial Hospital for treatment. Loomis continues his mission to find and stop Michael with the assistance of Sheriff Leigh Brackett. In a tragic mistake made by Loomis, he confuses teenager Ben Tramer for Michael and the young man ends up being struck by a police car and ultimately burned alive.
The bodies of Annie Brackett, Lynda Van der Klok, and Bob Simms are later discovered at the Wallace residence by authorities. Upon finding out his daughter’s death at the hands of Michael, Sheriff Brackett pins the blame on Loomis and abandons the search, appointing Deputy Gary Hunt to take over. At the hospital, Paramedic Jimmy develops a fondness for Laurie, but Head Nurse Virginia Alves limits their time together. Upon hearing a news update revealing Laurie’s whereabouts, Michael heads towards the hospital. There, he severs the phone lines and disables all cars in the parking lot, slashing their tires to prevent anyone from seeking help. As he roams the halls in pursuit of Laurie, he murders a security guard, a doctor, several nurses throughout the night. In her hospital room, Laurie has flashbacks of discovering her adoption and visiting young Michael at the sanitarium.
