Harry and the Hendersons (1987)
Directed and produced by William Dear, Harry and the Hendersons (1987) is a classic American fantasy comedy. After a camping trip in the nearby Cascade mountains, George Henderson drives his family back home to suburban Seattle when an unexpected encounter occurs. While traveling in their station wagon, they accidentally hit a Bigfoot. Excited by the potential for fame and fortune, the family brings the creature along by strapping it to the roof of their car. However, their plans are interrupted when a hunter discovers their damaged license plate, leading him to suspect foul play. That same night, George goes to check on the supposedly deceased Bigfoot and is shocked to find it alive and missing. Upon further investigation, he discovers Harry in their kitchen, rummaging through food in search of sustenance. The Hendersons quickly realize that Harry is not only intelligent but also friendly.
Despite their initial intentions, George decides that it’s best to return Harry to his natural habitat. Attempting to coax him into the station wagon for a journey back into the wilderness proves tricky as Harry becomes agitated and scampers off instead. Heartbroken, the family strives to return to their daily routines, but as media frenzy intensifies, Harry sightings become increasingly common. In an effort to locate Harry, George enlists the help of Dr. Wallace Wrightwood, a renowned Bigfoot specialist at the ‘North American Museum of Anthropology’. After leaving his contact information with the museum clerk, George continues his search. Soon after, Jacques LaFleur, a famous French-Canadian hunter-turned-Bigfoot-tracker, arrives at the Henderson residence.
