The fantasy film, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), was directed by Chris Columbus and written by Steve Kloves, adapting J.K. Rowling’s novel of the same name from 1998. While spending the summer with the Dursleys, Harry Potter meets Dobby, a house-elf who warns him not to return to Hogwarts as danger is looming. Despite Dobby’s warning, Harry refuses to stay away and ends up getting locked up by his relatives. Luckily, Ron Weasley and his brothers Fred and George come to his rescue in their father’s flying car. During a visit to Diagon Alley, they spot Gilderoy Lockhart having a book-signing event for being the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts. It’s there that Harry also sees Draco Malfoy’s father, Lucius, slipping a book into Ginny Weasley’s cauldron. After facing some obstacles while trying to get on Platform Nine and Three-Quarters at King’s Cross railway station, Harry and Ron end up taking the car to school instead.

However, they run into some trouble when they crash into the Whomping Willow tree, breaking Ron’s wand and earning themselves detention in the process. While in detention, Harry encounters a strange voice and discovers caretaker Argus Filch’s cat, Mrs Norris, petrified next to a message written in blood. It appears that the Chamber of Secrets has been opened and the heir is targeting enemies. According to legend, one of Hogwarts’ founders, Salazar Slytherin, built a hidden Chamber that houses a creature only his heir can control – one with the power to eradicate all Muggle-born students from the school. Determined to uncover the truth, Harry, Ron, and Hermione devise a plan to question Malfoy by using polyjuice potion they concoct in a bathroom where Moaning Myrtle haunts as a ghost. However, while playing Quidditch, Harry’s arm is broken by an uncontrollable Bludger.
