The fantasy film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), was directed by David Yates and written by Michael Goldenberg. It was based on the 2003 novel of the same name by J. K. Rowling. While staying at the Dursleys’, Harry Potter is attacked by Dementors alongside his cousin, Dudley. With the use of a Patronus spell, Harry repels them successfully. However, this results in him being detected by the Ministry of Magic for underage magic use, leading to his temporary expulsion from Hogwarts. Luckily, he is later cleared of any wrongdoing. The Order of the Phoenix is a secret organization founded by Albus Dumbledore that informs Harry about the Ministry’s efforts to suppress rumors about Lord Voldemort’s return. At their headquarters, Sirius Black, Harry’s godfather, reveals that Voldemort is searching for an object he previously lacked and Harry suspects it to be a weapon. In the meantime, Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge appoints Dolores Umbridge as Hogwarts’ new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor.

However, Umbridge’s refusal to teach defensive spells leads to clashes with Harry. Harry is punished for falsely accusing Voldemort, with a magical quill carving the words into his skin as he writes. Ron and Hermione are furious, but Harry refuses to confide in Dumbledore who has distanced himself. As Umbridge tightens her grip on the school, Ron and Hermione assist Harry in creating ‘Dumbledore’s Army’, a clandestine group dedicated to teaching students defensive spells. In response, Umbridge enlists Slytherins to join an Inquisitorial Squad tasked with spying on their peers. Meanwhile, Harry and Cho Chang develop romantic feelings for each other. One night, Harry has a vision of Arthur Weasley being attacked at the Ministry from the attacker’s perspective. Concerned that Voldemort could exploit this connection, Dumbledore arranges for Severus Snape to teach Harry Occlumency as a means of protecting his mind.
