Heat (1995) is an American crime film written and directed by Michael Mann. It stars Al Pacino and Robert De Niro among an ensemble cast. The movie follows the story of Neil McCauley, a skilled thief operating in Los Angeles. Along with his crew – including Chris Shiherlis, Michael Cheritto, Gilbert Trejo, and new recruit Waingro – they successfully pull off a heist of $1.6 million in bearer bonds from an armored car. Unfortunately, things take a turn for the worse when Waingro impulsively kills one of the guards, forcing the rest of the crew to eliminate the other two guards as well. In retaliation for this betrayal, McCauley plans to kill Waingro but he manages to escape. The robbery catches the attention of LAPD Lieutenant Vincent Hanna and his team who begin investigating the case. Despite being a dedicated lawman and ex-Marine, Hanna struggles with personal issues such as his strained relationship with his third wife Justine and trouble connecting with his stepdaughter Lauren.

Living a solitary life, McCauley’s world is shaken when he starts a relationship with Eady, a talented graphic designer. His fence, Nate, suggests that he return the stolen bonds to their original owner, notorious money launderer Roger Van Zant. In reality, Van Zant sets up an ambush for McCauley and his crew. However, knowing it could be a trap, McCauley and his team plan a counter-ambush and successfully defeat the hitmen. Seeking revenge, McCauley calls Van Zant but is interrupted when an informant of the LAPD reveals Cheritto’s involvement in the robbery. This leads Hanna’s team to keep tabs on Cheritto and eventually trace the rest of McCauley’s crew to their next target – a precious metals depository. Despite carefully staking out the location, the crew aborts their planned heist due to the carelessness of one officer who makes noise.
