Heist (2001)

Heist (2001) is an American heist film written and directed by David Mamet. The story follows Joe Moore, the leader of a team of skilled thieves consisting of Bobby Blane, Donnie ‘Pinky’ Pincus, and Joe’s wife Fran. During a jewelry store robbery in New York City, Joe’s uncovered face is caught on camera as he attempts to distract the store’s last employee. Knowing that both the photo and a witness can identify him, Joe decides to retire from crime and escape with his wife on their sailboat. However, this doesn’t sit well with Mickey Bergman, Joe’s fence who runs a garment business as a cover. After investing in another robbery setup, Bergman refuses to pay Joe and his crew. He pressures them to take on another job – robbing an airplane carrying a valuable shipment of gold – and insists that his nephew Jimmy Silk be part of the team.
Despite some concerns, Joe agrees but things get complicated as loyalties shift within the group due to various factors such as Silk’s interest in Fran and doubts about Joe’s abilities from Bergman and Silk. As they set up the plan for the robbery, a passing police officer interrupts them. Joe and Bobby successfully persuade the officer to leave, while an anxious Jimmy pulls out his gun, only to be stopped by Pinky. However, Joe is disappointed to discover that Pinky neglected to destroy the getaway car, which is covered in their fingerprints. This leads Joe to make the decision to call off the job. But Bergman refuses to accept their departure and pressures them into completing the task. The plane robbery involves a series of deceptive maneuvers. Pinky poses as a guard while Joe, Bobby, and Jimmy put on disguises as airport security personnel.
