Hereafter (2010)
Hereafter (2010), directed and co-produced by Clint Eastwood, is an American drama with a screenplay by Peter Morgan. The film follows three individuals who share a common experience with death, all struggling to communicate with the deceased. Playing the role of George is Matt Damon, an American factory worker who has the ability to communicate with the dead professionally but chooses not to. Cécile de France portrays Marie, a French TV journalist who survives a near-death experience during the 2004 tsunami in the Indian Ocean. Lastly, Frankie and George McLaren play Marcus, a British schoolboy coping with the loss of someone dear to him. Other notable actors include Bryce Dallas Howard, Lyndsey Marshal, Jay Mohr and Thierry Neuvic in supporting roles.
While covering a story in India, French journalist Marie Lelay is caught in the devastating Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004. Though initially presumed dead, she miraculously comes back to life after a glimpse of the afterlife. Upon her return to Paris, she is reunited with her partner Didier and resumes work. However, the traumatic experience takes a toll on Marie’s state of mind and Didier (who also happens to be her producer) grants her a leave of absence. In San Francisco, George Lonegan reluctantly agrees to do a psychic reading for Christos, a wealthy client referred by his brother Billy. Despite having a natural ability as a medium due to a near-death experience in his childhood, George quits as it emotionally disturbs him to communicate with the deceased.
