Directed by Andy Tennan, Hitch (2005) is an American romantic comedy film. As a professional ‘date doctor’, Alex ‘Hitch’ Hitchens excels at coaching men in the art of wooing women with the ultimate goal of developing genuine, long-term relationships. He has achieved great success in this field. During one of his coaching sessions with client Albert Brennaman, who has fallen for Allegra Cole, a celebrity at the investment firm where Albert works, Hitch finds himself drawn to Sara Melas. Despite their budding relationship, Hitch struggles to make a connection with Sara as his usual methods fail to impress her. Throughout the entire process, he maintains his cover as a generic ‘consultant’, keeping his career hidden.
Hitch has a meeting with Vance Munson, a shallow woman-hater who asks for Hitch’s help in hooking up with Casey Sedgewick, Sara’s best friend and coworker. Although Hitch declines to assist, Vance cunningly leads her to believe that he has employed Hitch’s expertise. Once Sara discovers Hitch’s true identity, she writes an exposé that results in Albert destroying a newsstand in anger, getting arrested, and Allegra ending their relationship. As a result of this scandal, Hitch’s reputation takes a hit. At a speed dating event where Hitch sneaks in, Sara and Casey confront him and mention that Vance was their source. In response, Hitch clarifies that not only did he turn down Vance’s request for assistance but also highlights the challenges women face in protecting themselves from men like Vance.
