Hook (1991)
Hook (1991), a fantasy film directed by Steven Spielberg and written by James V. Hart and Malia Scotch Marmo, follows the story of American-raised British lawyer Peter Banning. Due to his workaholic nature, Peter’s relationships with his wife Moira and their children, Jack and Maggie, have become strained. When he fails to keep a promise to Jack, Peter decides to take his family to London to visit Moira’s grandmother, Wendy Darling. While attending a charity dinner in Wendy’s honor at the Great Ormond Street Hospital, the children are left with Wendy’s old friend Tootles and housekeeper Liza. Upon their return, they discover that the house has been robbed and the children are missing. A note from Captain James Hook demands ransom for their safe return. Despite involving the authorities, Peter receives little help and is forced to rely on Wendy’s belief that he is truly Peter Pan in order to save Jack and Maggie.
However, Peter dismisses her claims. In the nursery, Peter meets Tinker Bell who transports him to Neverland. She drops him into Hook’s pirate haven where he is identified by Smee and Hook. Surprised at Peter’s weakened state, Hook challenges him to fly and save his children, threatening execution if he fails. Tinker Bell steps in and convinces Hook to spare Peter, promising to train him for their upcoming showdown over the next three days. Peter is then brought to the hideout of the Lost Boys, now led by Rufio. Despite being teased initially, they eventually realize his identity and coach him back to full strength using the power of imagination. One boy, named Thud Butt, gives Peter a bag of marbles previously belonging to a former Lost Boy named Tootles who had left Neverland with Wendy.
