Hot Fuzz (2007) is an action-packed buddy cop comedy directed by Edgar Wright and co-written by Wright and Simon Pegg. Pegg also takes on the lead role alongside Nick Frost. After his promotion to Sergeant in the Metropolitan Police Service, highly capable constable Nicholas Angel is transferred to Sandford, Gloucestershire – a quaint town that regularly wins the title of ‘Village of the Year’. Meanwhile, Angel’s girlfriend Janine breaks up with him due to his workaholic tendencies. On his first night in Sandford, Angel unknowingly arrests his new partner PC Danny Butterman for drunk driving. Butterman, a fan of buddy cop films and the son of Inspector Frank Butterman, quickly becomes Angel’s colleague.

However, Angel soon grows frustrated with the village’s mundane routine, his incompetent coworkers, and Frank’s and the Neighbourhood Watch Alliance (NWA)’s obsession with maintaining low crime statistics at the expense of enforcing the law. Following the untimely deaths of lead actors Martin Blower and Eve Draper in a supposed car crash, Angel begins to suspect foul play. This suspicion is strengthened when he and Danny uncover an illegal weapons stash, including an old sea mine, while addressing a small dispute. As they spend time together watching action films at Danny’s house, Angel warms up to his colleague. However, their peaceful evening is interrupted when a cloaked figure targets wealthy land developer George Merchant in his home, causing a fatal gas explosion. Angel can’t help but connect this tragedy to the recent property deal that has been making headlines.
