Directed by Ridley Scott, an American film House of Gucci (2021) is a biographical crime drama based on Sara Gay Forden’s book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed. Set in Italy during the year 1978, it follows Patrizia Reggiani as she works as an office manager for her father’s small trucking firm. At a party, she meets Maurizio Gucci, a law student and heir to 50% of the Gucci fashion house through his father Rodolfo. Patrizia aggressively pursues Maurizio and they fall in love. Despite warnings from Rodolfo that Patrizia is only interested in his wealth, Maurizio chooses her over his family’s legacy and they marry. He then begins working at the trucking company. When Patrizia becomes pregnant, she sees it as a chance to reconcile with Maurizio’s family and accidentally reveals the news to his uncle Aldo who becomes thrilled and takes them under his wing.

Aldo introduces Patrizia to his eccentric son Paolo, who aspires to be a designer at Gucci despite lacking talent. With Aldo’s help, Maurizio and Rodolfo reconcile shortly before Rodolfo’s death. Although Rodolfo writes Maurizio back into his will, he fails to sign the document granting him 50% share of Gucci before passing away. In a deceitful move, Patrizia forges Rodolfo’s signature on an updated testament. She then devises a scheme to gain control of Gucci by acquiring shares from both Aldo and Paolo, who own the remaining 50%. As she clashes with Aldo over the black market sale of cheap imitations of Gucci products, Patrizia seeks guidance from Giuseppina “Pina”, a psychic, on how to manipulate Maurizio into being more involved in the company that he has little genuine interest in.
