I Am Not Okay with This (2020) is a darkly comedic American series, streaming on Netflix. The show is based on Charles Forsman’s graphic novel of the same name and stars Sophia Lillis, Wyatt Oleff, Sofia Bryant, and Kathleen Rose Perkins. It premiered on February 26, 2020 and was met with positive reviews, especially for the standout performances of Lillis and Oleff. Sadly, a second season was originally planned but ultimately canceled due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The show was given an eight-episode order in December 2018 by Netflix, though only seven episodes were produced. Jonathan Entwistle and Christy Hall created and served as executive producers alongside Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen, and Josh Barry. Entwistle also directed the series.
Seventeen-year-old Sydney Novak resides with her mother and younger brother, a year after losing her father. She’s disheartened by the fact that they never discuss his suicide, leading to constant quarrels between them. At the advice of her guidance counselor, Sydney decides to vent out her rage by writing in a diary, albeit, reluctantly. Meeting up with best friend Dina, Sydney learns about Dina’s new romance with popular jock Bradley Lewis. To her surprise, Bradley’s nose starts bleeding, making Sydney suspect she had something to do with it. On her way home, she bumps into Stanley Barber, her neighbor who suggests they should hang out sometime. Despite feeling apprehensive, Sydney agrees. Back at home, she takes care of Liam and listens to him talk about a classmate who got in trouble for fighting. Later on that night, after an unemotional conversation with her mother, Sydney sits on the floor of her room feeling frustrated when suddenly she hears a cracking sound coming from the wall behind her.
