I Want You Back (2022)
I Want You Back (2022) is a romantic comedy movie directed by Jason Orley and written by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. In Atlanta, Peter and Emma, two thirty-somethings, are dumped by their partners – Anne, who feels suffocated in her six-year relationship with Peter; and Noah, who is disappointed by Emma’s carefree attitude. Despite their heartbreak, Peter and Emma forge a friendship after a serendipitous encounter and try to support each other through their breakups. During one of their conversations, Emma reveals to Peter that she used to consider Noah her “airplane safety mask person” – the one person she loved enough to prioritize their safety over hers during an emergency situation on a plane. However, Peter dismisses this as a foolish notion.
On a desperate night, Emma and Peter hatch a plan to win back their exes by interfering with their new relationships. Emma will charm Anne’s new boyfriend Logan, while Peter strives to persuade Noah to leave his current girlfriend Ginny. In order to get closer to Noah, Peter enlists him as his personal trainer, while Emma volunteers for Logan’s middle school production of Little Shop of Horrors. As they spend time together, Emma and Peter grow closer and open up about their dreams and struggles – he dreams of owning a nursing home and she has been held back by her father’s illness. Meanwhile, Peter and Noah develop a bond, while Emma impresses Logan with her supposed love for theatre and amazes him with her passionate performance in “Suddenly, Seymour”.
