Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012)

Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012), an animated adventure comedy produced by Blue Sky Studios and distributed by 20th Century Fox, follows the story of Manny and Ellie, who are happily living with their teenage daughter Peaches. While Ellie supports Peaches’ desire to explore and make new friends, Manny’s overprotective nature causes tension between them. As Sid’s family returns briefly to drop off his elderly grandmother, they leave him and Sid behind once again. Peaches rebels against her father’s rules by hanging out with a group of teenage mammoths, resulting in a heated argument. However, things take a dramatic turn when Scrat’s pursuit of an acorn triggers a continental break-up and separates Manny, Sid, Diego, and Granny from Ellie, Peaches, and the rest of their animal friends on land. This separation leaves Peaches feeling guilty about her disagreement with her father.

Simultaneously, a massive land shift threatens those still on solid ground, compelling them to follow Ellie’s guidance as they make their way towards a land bridge for safety. Meanwhile, while Scrat discovers yet another acorn deep in the ocean, its shattered state reveals a map to ‘The Lost City of Scratlantis’. Driven by his desire for the elusive nut, Scrat embarks on his journey. However, a violent hurricane diverts Manny and his companions further away from land. Soon after, they fall into the clutches of a group of pirates sailing on an iceberg pirate ship commanded by Captain Gutt, a Gigantopithecus. Gutt pressures them to join his crew but Manny refuses and they are nearly put to death. In their attempt to flee, their actions cause the ship and supplies to sink. One of Gutt’s own crew members, Shira the sabretooth tiger, ends up joining forces with them after being abandoned by her comrades.
