The American science fiction thriller film In the Shadow of the Moon (2019) is directed by Jim Mickle and written by Gregory Weidman and Geoff Tock. In Philadelphia, Police Detective Locke and his partner Maddox are on the hunt for a female serial killer in 1988. After Locke takes her down in the subway, their boss Chief Holt declares the case closed without identifying the killer. Nine years later, similar crimes occur, leading Locke and Maddox to suspect a copycat. However, further investigation reveals that the killer is actually the same woman from before – who Locke had already killed. As time goes on, Locke becomes increasingly fixated on the case and believes that she has been traveling through time in an opposite timeline. So when she resurfaces again after nine years, Locke is ready for her.
In 1997, a new killing spree begins, seemingly imitating the previous one. Lockhart, now a detective and father to his young daughter Amy, is unable to find a reason or connection between the victims. While investigating, he follows a lead from keys found during the first spree and discovers they are linked to an aircraft made in 1996. Naveen Rao, a physicist, believes this is evidence of time travel but Maddox and Lockhart dismiss his claims. Despite their skepticism, Lockhart eventually tracks down the suspect at an airfield and is surprised to find that she is the same person from 1988 who has not aged. She accidentally kills Maddox and takes Lockhart hostage, proving once again that she knows personal details about him that she shouldn’t. After giving him a warning, she disappears without a trace.
