In the film In the Tall Grass (2019), written and directed by Vincenzo Natali, a pregnant woman named Becky and her brother Cal are on a trip to San Diego. While taking a break, they come across a young boy named Tobin and his mother Natalie who are in distress in the tall grass. Despite their concerns, the siblings enter the grass and soon become separated as they realize the landscape is shifting unnaturally. As they try to leave, Becky encounters Tobin’s father Ross who warns her to stay close. However, she loses sight of him and Cal also has a strange encounter with Tobin involving a dead crow. According to Tobin, dead things cannot move in the grass and he even claims that Becky will soon die based on what “the rock” told him. Later on, when Cal goes to touch the rock at Tobin’s insistence, he hears Becky scream before being attacked by a ghost.

Travis, the father of Becky’s child, shows up in search of his siblings. While exploring the field, he comes across Tobin, who suggests they are acquainted and guides him to Becky’s lifeless body. Tobin and his parents arrive at a nearby church where they hear Travis calling out for Tobin from the vegetation. The family dog, Freddy, is lured towards the sound, causing Tobin, Natalie, and Ross to follow and unintentionally become separated. With everyone in a state of panic, Becky and Cal venture back into the grass as Tobin informs them that Freddy has passed away. Aware of the grass’s peculiar nature, Travis instructs Becky and Cal to move towards Tobin’s voice. Eventually, all four reunite with each other. Travis discloses that they have been missing for two months and also reveals that he initially did not want to be a father and had asked Becky to terminate their baby – an offer she declined.
