Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) is a classic action adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg with a screenplay by Jeffrey Boam. The story, originally conceived by George Lucas and Menno Meyjes, follows young Indiana Jones as he stumbles upon a group of grave-robbers while exploring caves in Utah in 1912. Despite evading the robbers and returning home with the stolen gold crucifix, Indy is eventually forced to hand it over to their employer, the town’s sheriff. Twenty-six years later, Indy finds himself retrieving the same crucifix off the coast of Portugal. However, his joy is short-lived when he learns of his father Henry’s disappearance while searching for the Holy Grail. Walter Donovan, Henry’s financial backer, enlists Indy’s help in finding both Henry and the Grail.

With a diary from his father containing crucial information on their search, Indy sets off to Venice with Dr. Marcus Brody. It is there that he meets Elsa Schneider, Henry’s associate who leads them to a secret catacomb hidden beneath the library where his father was last seen. There, a shield with an inscription points them towards Alexandretta. Indy and Elsa encounter the Brotherhood of the Cruciform Sword, whose mission is to prevent treasure hunters from obtaining the grail. After sparing the group’s leader, Kazim, Indy learns that Henry is being held at Castle Brunwald in Austria. He gives Marcus a map from the diary outlining a path to the Grail, and sends him to meet their friend Sallah in Alexandretta. When they return to their hotel rooms, they discover they have been searched. It is then that Indy reveals the existence of the diary to Elsa and they spend the night together.
