Inside Man (2006)
Inside Man (2006) is an American crime thriller film directed by Spike Lee and written by Russell Gewirtz. It centers on an elaborate bank heist-turned-hostage situation on Wall Street. In August 2005, inside a small, dimly-lit cell, Dalton Russell brags about committing the perfect bank robbery. In New York City, masked robbers seize control of a Manhattan bank, using variants of the name “Steve” as aliases and dressed in painter coveralls. They hold patrons and employees hostage and divide them into groups, rotating them among various rooms while disguised in identical masks and coveralls. The group also takes turns demolishing the floor in one of the bank’s storage rooms. As police surround the bank, Detectives Keith Frazier and Bill Mitchell lead negotiations with Russell, who demands food be provided.
The police deliver pizzas rigged with hidden listening devices. These bugs pick up an individual speaking Albanian, initially mistaken for Russian. Upon further investigation, it is revealed to be propaganda recordings of the late Albanian leader Enver Hoxha. This suggests that the robbers may have been anticipating surveillance. When Arthur Case, founder and chairman of the bank, is informed of the robbery, he enlists fixer Madeleine White to safeguard the contents of a particular safe deposit box within the bank. During his search, Russell comes across documents from Nazi Germany in one safe deposit box. With her influence over the Mayor of New York, White meets with Frazier and convinces him to allow her to speak with Russell privately inside the bank.
