Interiors (1978)

Interiors (1978) is an American drama film written and directed by Woody Allen. It follows the story of a family, specifically Arthur and Eve, who have three adult daughters. The eldest daughter, Renata, is a successful poet with a struggling writer husband named Frederick. Meanwhile, the youngest daughter, Flyn, is an actress who is often away filming low-quality movies that are the subject of gossip. Joey, the middle daughter in a relationship with Mike, struggles to find her career path and resents her mother’s favoritism towards Renata. While Renata resents their father’s concern for Joey’s directionless life. One morning, Arthur surprises everyone by announcing his desire for separation from Eve and living on his own.
Eve, who struggles with clinical depression, makes a suicide attempt in her new Manhattan apartment. This causes a rift between the sisters. In the meantime, Arthur returns from a trip to Greece with Pearl, a lively and ‘normal’ woman whom he plans to marry. His daughters are upset that Arthur seems to be disregarding Eve’s suicide attempt by pursuing another relationship with what Joey calls a ‘vulgarian’. The wedding takes place at the family’s beach house in Long Island, with Renata, Joey, and Flyn present. Later that night, things take an ugly turn when Joey lashes out at Pearl for accidentally breaking one of Eve’s vases. In a separate incident on the same night, Frederick drunkenly attempts to assault Flyn in the garage but she manages to escape.
