The American dark fantasy drama film, Jack Frost (1998), was directed by Troy Miller. The lead singer of a rock band based in the fictional town of Medford, Colorado neglects his family, including his 11-year-old son Charlie, due to his focus on music and hopes of a record deal. However, Jack and Charlie bond while building a snowman together and Jack gifts Charlie his best harmonica that he received on the day of Charlie’s birth. In jest, Jack tells Charlie it is magical and that he will always be able to hear it wherever he is. Despite promising his wife Gabby that he will attend their son’s hockey game, Jack misses it in order to record a new hit song. Feeling guilty, he promises to take the family on a Christmas trip to the mountains but gets called in for a gig that could make or break his career.

On his way to the gig, Jack borrows Mac MacArthur’s car from his best friend and bandmate to visit his family in the mountains. However, he gets caught in a fierce snowstorm and tragically passes away after crashing the car. Charlie struggles with depression following his father’s death and is comforted by Gabby during an emotional breakdown while shoveling snow. One night, Charlie creates a snowman that resembles Jack as best as he can remember and plays Jack’s harmonica before going to bed. To everyone’s surprise, the harmonica has magical powers and brings Jack back to life by transferring his spirit into the snowman. When Jack tries to greet Charlie using his familiar nickname ‘Charlie boy’, he ends up frightening him instead. But eventually, Charlie realizes that the snowman is actually his father.
