JFK (1991)
The American epic political thriller film, JFK (1991), written and directed by Oliver Stone, delves into the investigation of the assassination of John F. Kennedy. The New Orleans district attorney, Jim Garrison, becomes convinced that there was a conspiracy to kill Kennedy and that Lee Harvey Oswald was used as a scapegoat. Outgoing President Dwight D. Eisenhower had warned about the dangers of the military-industrial complex in his 1961 farewell address. However, Kennedy takes over as president and is faced with challenges such as the Bay of Pigs Invasion and the Cuban Missile Crisis before his tragic assassination in Dealey Plaza on November 22, 1963. His suspected killer, former US marine Lee Harvey Oswald who had defected to the Soviet Union, is also charged with the murder of police officer J.D Tippit but is shot by nightclub owner Jack Ruby.
Jim Garrison leads an investigation into possible connections between New Orleans and the JFK assassination, including pilot David Ferrie, only to be publicly dismissed by the federal government and forced to close the case. In 1966, the investigation was reopened when Garrison discovered what he believed to be several errors in the Warren Report. Along with his staff, he questioned individuals associated with Oswald and Ferrie. One of these witnesses was Willie O’Keefe, a male prostitute serving time for solicitation. O’Keefe claimed to have overheard Ferrie discussing a plot to kill Kennedy with someone known as ‘Clay Bertrand’, and also mentioned briefly encountering Oswald. Based on this information, Garrison and his team developed a theory that Oswald may have been working for the CIA and was set up to take the fall for the assassination.
